Product Description
Objectives:
1. To provide vocational training in basic metalworking techniques to underprivileged youth and women.
2. To equip the participants with the skills to produce and market simple metal products like keychains, small tools, and decorative items.
3. To enable the participants to generate sustainable income through the sale of handcrafted metal products.
4. To foster entrepreneurship, technical skills, and financial independence among the target beneficiaries.
Target Beneficiaries:
The project will target 20-25 underprivileged youth (both male and female) and women from low-income households in the local community.
Project Activities:
1. Metalworking Tool and Equipment Procurement: Acquire basic metalworking tools and equipment like hand tools, metal sheets/wires, bench vises, and soldering irons to set up the training workshop.
2. Metalworking Skills Training: Conduct a 3-month intensive training program to teach the participants metal cutting, filing, bending, welding, and finishing techniques.
3. Product Design and Development: Guide the participants in designing and producing marketable metal products like keychains, small tools, decorative items, and home accessories.
4. Business and Marketing Skills: Provide training in costing, pricing, packaging, and marketing the handcrafted metal products.
5. Microfinance and Entrepreneurship: Link the participants to microfinance institutions and provide mentorship on starting small metalworking-based enterprises.
6. Linkages and Market Access: Assist the participants in establishing market linkages to sell their products through local stores, exhibitions, and online platforms.
Project Budget (for 25 participants):
– Metalworking tools and equipment: $3,000
– Raw materials (metal sheets, wires, etc.): $1,800
– Trainer fees and program coordination: $2,000
– Marketing and promotional activities: $800
– Microfinance and entrepreneurship training: $600
Total Budget: $8,200
Key Needs and Challenges:
1. Technical Expertise: The project requires skilled trainers who can teach the participants the fundamentals of metalworking in a hands-on, easy-to-learn manner.
2. Access to Raw Materials: Ensuring a steady supply of affordable, high-quality raw materials (metal sheets, wires, etc.) for the participants to work with.
3. Infrastructure and Safety: Establishing a dedicated training workshop with appropriate safety measures and equipment to provide a conducive learning environment.
4. Market Linkages: Helping the participants connect with potential customers and build sustainable sales channels for their metal products.
5. Financial Constraints: Addressing the limited access to capital and credit among the target beneficiaries to support their entrepreneurial ventures.
Sustainability and Impact:

The participants will be encouraged to form self-help groups and cooperatives to continue the training and marketing activities beyond the project duration.
