Product Description
Objectives:
1. To provide vocational training in sewing and textile crafts to underprivileged women.
2. To equip the women with the skills to produce and market basic textile products like tote bags, aprons, and pillows.
3. To enable the women to generate sustainable income through the sale of handmade textile items.
4. To foster entrepreneurship and financial independence among the participants.
Target Beneficiaries:
The project will target 20-25 underprivileged women from the local community, prioritizing single mothers, widows, and youth from low-income households.
Project Activities:
1. Sewing Machine Donation: Provide 15-20 basic sewing machines to equip the training center.
2. Sewing Skills Training: Conduct a 3-month intensive training program to teach the women basic sewing techniques, pattern making, and product design.
3. Product Development: Guide the participants in designing and producing marketable textile items like tote bags, aprons, cushion covers, and potholders.
4. Business and Marketing Skills: Provide training in costing, pricing, packaging, and marketing the handmade products.
5. Microfinance and Entrepreneurship: Link the women to microfinance institutions and provide mentorship on starting small sewing-based enterprises.
6. Linkages and Market Access: Assist the women in establishing market linkages to sell their products through local stores, exhibitions, and online platforms.
Project Budget (for 25 participants):
– Sewing machines and accessories: $2,000
– Fabric, thread, and other raw materials: $1,500
– Trainer fees and program coordination: $1,800
– Marketing and promotional activities: $700
– Microfinance and entrepreneurship training: $500
Total Budget: $6,500
Sustainability and Impact:
The project aims to equip the women with marketable sewing skills that can generate sustainable income. The participants will be encouraged to form self-help groups and cooperatives to continue the training and marketing activities beyond the project duration. The increased household income and entrepreneurial spirit will lead to greater socioeconomic empowerment of the women and their families.
Monitoring and Evaluation:
The project’s progress will be monitored through regular field visits, participant feedback, and periodic review meetings. Key performance indicators will include the number of women trained, products developed, sales generated, and new enterprises established.
